What BBB accreditation actually means

Plenty of companies display a logo. Accreditation is a different thing from a logo, because the BBB doesn’t hand it out on request. A business has to apply, be reviewed, and then commit in writing to eight standards — and keep meeting them, because accreditation can be revoked.

These are the BBB Standards for Trust, in the BBB’s own words:

  1. Build trust. Establish and maintain a positive track record in the marketplace.
  2. Advertise honestly. Follow established legal and ethical advertising practices.
  3. Tell the truth. Honestly represent products and services with clear disclosures.
  4. Be transparent. Openly identify the business and disclose all material facts.
  5. Honor promises. Fulfill all contracts, commitments, and representations.
  6. Be responsive. Address disputes forwarded by BBB quickly and in good faith.
  7. Safeguard privacy. Protect collected data against unauthorized disclosure.
  8. Embody integrity. Approach all business dealings with integrity and good faith.

Read those again with a cleaning contract in mind. Every one of the eight is something facility managers get burned on: the quote that quietly grows, the crew that changes every month, the call that goes unreturned, the cleaner who was never told what’s confidential. Accreditation doesn’t make any of that impossible. It does mean there’s an outside party we answer to when it happens.

What the A+ rating is based on

The rating is separate from the accreditation. BBB grades businesses on a 13-point letter scale from A+ down to F, scored out of 100, and an A+ sits at the top of it. The score is built from the business’s BBB file, weighing seven things:

Complaint history

How many complaints, how serious, and how they were resolved.

Time in business

A long operating history counts. Ours starts in 1987.

Type of business

Some industries carry more inherent risk to the customer.

Transparent practices

Whether ownership, contact details and terms are disclosed openly.

Honoring commitments

Whether the business follows through on what it tells BBB it will do.

Licensing

Required licenses held and in good standing.

Advertising issues

Any claims BBB has challenged as misleading.

A BBB rating is BBB’s opinion, not a guarantee — that’s their framing, and we’d rather quote it than overstate it. What it tells you is that an organisation with no stake in our business looked at our file and didn’t find a problem.

Why this matters more for cleaning than for most trades

Think about what a janitorial contract actually involves. You’re giving a company keys to your building, alarm codes, and unsupervised access after everyone has gone home. Our crews walk past open laptops, patient files, cash drawers and server rooms every night.

That’s an unusual amount of trust to hand a vendor, and this industry doesn’t always earn it. A lot of it runs on franchise models and subcontracted labour, where the company that signs your contract isn’t the company that shows up, and nobody can tell you who was in your building on Tuesday.

We’re built the other way round:

  • Not a franchise. Fraser Commercial is one company, family-owned since 1987, run by the Fraser family.
  • No subcontracting. All 100+ of our team members are our own direct hires. The people in your building work for us.
  • Bonded and insured. Fully — and we’ll send the certificates before you ask.
  • Veteran-owned. Founder Scott Fraser started the company in 1987 and still runs it.
  • Now BBB accredited. With a public profile and an A+ rating you can check without calling us.

Verify it yourself

Don’t take a logo on a website as proof of anything — including ours. Any business can paste an image onto a page. The only thing that means something is the profile it links to.

The button below goes straight to our BBB Business Profile, where the rating, the accreditation date and any complaints on file are shown by BBB, not by us.
